The Importance of a Community Living Structure
We have unique approaches to community living at Caron Renaissance and Caron Ocean Drive, but the goal at both locations is to empower patients to return to the real world with confidence.
Community living at Renaissance
At Caron Renaissance, many of our our patients arrive without vocational or life skills. That’s why this community living structure is designed to help our patients develop independence and pride in themselves, while also receiving the treatment and support of their clinical team. Over the course of their three to six month stay, they learn to care for themselves. Most patients learn skills like:
- planning meals
- doing laundry
- managing a budget and grocery shopping with their $90 a week grocery allotment.
Patients at Renaissance do chores, such as taking out the trash and organizing pool chairs, to contribute to the community’s welfare. This helps to further develop a sense of responsibility and belonging.
Community Living at Ocean Drive
Patients at Ocean Drive usually arrive with highly-developed careers and pressing business demands. So this community living structure is designed to help patients maintain their career as well as their lifestyle. Patients live with likeminded peers who share similar backgrounds and expectations. They may attend local concerts, go to the movies or even shop together. These excursions help patients navigate real-life triggers with support.
While at Ocean Drive, patients may also access laptops and cell phones and continue to travel for business, when clinically appropriate. We want every patient to experience what it’s like to enjoy their daily life while sober.
Our Experienced Staff
There are full-time, on-site Residential Counselor Assistants located both Caron Renaissance and Caron Ocean Drive. These team members are highly educated experts, well-trained in each community’s specific needs. This makes them uniquely qualified to support patients through their community living experience. The team builds a rapport with each patient by:
- helping patients adjust to life in treatment
- holding patients accountable for keeping their apartments clean
- working with patients to develop action plans for resolving issues with peers
Community Living is clinically driven. All members, including our residential counselor assistants, have access to daily documentation about each of the patients and their experiences.
