Caron Treatment Centers Broadens Levels of Care on its Pennsylvania Campus with New Partial Hospitalization Program

Length of stay matters, and Caron’s new program enables patients to continue substance use disorder treatment in a supportive sober environment

Wernersville, PA – June 5, 2023 Caron Treatment Centers, a leading, internationally recognized nonprofit dedicated to addiction and behavioral healthcare treatment, research, prevention and addiction medicine education, today announced its new Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), extending the levels of care at its Pennsylvania campus in Wernersville. The new program provides a bridge for patients who have completed in-patient treatment, but are not ready for an outpatient level of care. Patients will reside in sober living on Caron’s campus while participating in intensive counseling and group work.

“We are excited to broaden the levels of care on our Pennsylvania campus,” said David Rotenberg, Chief Clinical Officer for Caron Treatment Centers. “Length of stay matters. We know from research and our nearly 70 years of experience in addiction medicine that the longer an individual stays engaged in treatment, the better the outcome.”

“Currently, most of our patients in Pennsylvania stay for approximately 28 days of in-patient treatment before they step down to a lower level of care,” continued Rotenberg. “With limited options for patients requiring a partial hospitalization program, especially those who need medication-assisted treatment, Caron is excited to now provide these individuals the sober, supportive living environment needed while continuing their extensive clinical care. It also allows patients to resume regular activities while still in a therapeutic environment, which really is important in early recovery.”

When clinically appropriate, Caron’s new PHP is in-network with Caron’s current healthcare insurance partners including Aetna.

Caron’s strong history of positive outcomes in the treatment of Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) has led the way in establishing outcome-based treatment for SUD and AUD.

Caron’s PHP includes:

  • Private and semi-private sober living options
  • 10:1 patient/counselor ratio
  • Four hours of group therapy daily
  • Two individual counseling sessions per week

When clinically appropriate, PHP at Caron will allow individuals to work on trauma, chronic pain, spirituality, relapse and family issues. On-going psychiatry and psychology treatment will follow from Caron’s in-patient program to PHP as clinically indicated. Referrals to physical therapy (PT), acupuncture and medical massage are also available, along with adventure-based counseling, which includes trips to nearby attractions or stores.

All medications are self-administered, dietary and religious accommodations occur whenever possible and, when appropriate, participants are able to resume working at their jobs remotely.
