Like most diseases you can’t just wish it away but you have to fight it. I know that more than anything Brenda wished to fight it and get better. She wished to be a better mother, daughter, sister, and friend. I also know that she was fighting it when her life was cut short. I know that she was doing the best she could to be all of these things. I know she wished to be closer with her family again.
Thankfully, by the grace of God, my father and I were able to be with her during some of the last days of her life. Ultimately, it was not Brenda's addiction that took her life, but it did rob us of some very precious time together. Brenda's fight had to end too soon and some of the things that she wished for did not get to come true. This is why I call this Brenda's Wish: In the hope that in honor of my sister we can help someone from Berks County get quality treatment at Caron and help their wish come true.
How You Can Help
By making a contribution to Brenda’s Wish, you will help someone from Berks County get the treatment they need and reunite a family with a mother, daughter, sister, and friend. Brenda left behind three young children and extended family and friends who miss her dearly. Help us make sure another family is able to experience sobriety and hope with their loved one before it is too late. Addiction is a chronic disease and treatment does work.
Caron's Impact on Berks County
Caron Treatment Centers is one of the oldest, largest and most respected residential treatment centers and has led the nation in innovation including establishing some of the first gender specific treatment programs, teenage and young adult programs, a continuum of care for teens and adults, and has worked jointly with research universities to develop cutting-edge addiction research and treatment programs.
Each year over 1,000 Berks residents receive treatment from Caron. Additionally Caron Counseling provides on-going outpatient and counseling services to families from this area. Last year, Caron awarded more than $1.7 million in treatment scholarships to Berks Country residents. Unfortunately, despite this generous amount, there are still individuals in Berks County who cannot afford treatment.
All donations to Brenda’s Wish are tax deductible to the full extent of the law, as no goods or services were provided in consideration of your gift. Please note that if you received an auction item or service, these items are not tax deductible because you are getting something in return for your money. Only donations above the value of the goods or services received are tax deductible.
All proceeds from Brenda’s Wish fundraising events will go toward helping individuals from Berks County get treatment at Caron Treatment Centers.
Your Gift Can Make a Difference
Caron also leads the industry in scholarship care providing more aid to families who cannot afford treatment than three of the recognized treatment centers combined. Caron not only dedicates a percentage of patient revenue to scholarship care, we are also fortunate to be able to partner with family, friends and corporate leaders to raise scholarship dollars that go directly to helping patients and their families recover from this devastating disease. Unfortunately, there are still families who cannot afford treatment. Your gift, regardless of the size, will help us begin to bridge this financial gap.
If you wish to donate by mail, please make checks payable to Caron, noting your donation is for Brenda's Wish and send to:
