Kristen Alcover

As the Primary Therapist Supervisor, Kristen Alcover uses principles of dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and trauma-informed care to support and guide her patients in delving into the issues and family dynamics that underlie their substance use disorder and other compulsive behaviors.

Her supportive therapeutic presence and guidance enables them to use the insights they gain to begin building a healthy life in recovery. She does the same kind of therapeutic work with family members to give the family system the greatest chance of success and move family members toward healthy, dynamic relationships and connection.

Kristen began working in her current position in 2020. She previously was a counselor assistant at Caron Renaissance for nearly two years, which enabled her to better understand the patients and families of Renaissance and develop experience in direct patient care and crisis intervention.

Prior to joining Caron in 2018, Kristen interned as part of her master’s program at a public defenders’ office. She worked with offenders to develop a timeline of their lives to uncover the causes, such as trauma and substance use, that contributed to their maladaptive behavior.

Kristen has a Master of Arts in forensic and legal psychology from Marymount University and a Bachelor of Science in psychology from the University of Florida.

Seeing the change that occurs in patients and families drives my motivation to support my current and future patients and their families. Because we have a robust alumni program at Caron, we are able to see the progression and changes our former patients make in their lives.”
