Marguerite Schroeder

2023 Richard J. Caron Award of Excellence

This year’s Richard J. Caron Award of Excellence honors Marguerite Schroeder, Esq. for her commitment to Caron as a member of our Board of Trustees, impact philanthropist and dedicated volunteer.

Marguerite is a former public educator and has held numerous advocacy and leadership positions with the New Jersey Education Association since 1972. She is a driving force for strategic change not only in her professional life, but also in her volunteer leadership at Caron.

In 2008 Marguerite entered treatment in Wernersville and attended the Breakthrough program in 2009. From the time she first stepped onto Magic Mountain, Marguerite began her journey to give back in meaningful and substantial ways. Since that time, she has held a number of volunteer leadership roles, joining the Greater Philadelphia Regional Advisory Board in 2011 and concluding her tenure by serving as Chair from 2019-2022. She is a former member of the National Alumni Leadership Council and Greater Philadelphia gala committee, and currently serves on Caron’s Corporate Board of Trustees, Executive Committee, Governance Committee and is chair of the Human Resources Committee.

Marguerite’s philanthropic leadership at Caron includes her membership in the Chit Chat Society (Caron’s Planned Giving society), ongoing support of the Father Bill Chapel Fund, and a recent generous gift to name the Marguerite Schroeder Terrace of Hope and Healing.

If you were to ask Marguerite, her greatest impact and accomplishments at Caron are the monthly pilgrimages she makes to Magic Mountain to speak and meet with current patients, as well as her constant connection to the lifeblood of our organization: our staff. She has a passion for supporting women—particularly executive women— in finding their footing in early recovery. Marguerite spends one weekend a month on our Wernersville campus, as well as every Thanksgiving and Christmas. This service is a cornerstone to her recovery and inspiration for staff and patients alike.

Marguerite demonstrates the spirit of service exemplified by Caron’s founders Dick and Catherine Caron, and her contributions to Caron’s mission and strategic vision have made a lasting impact on the organization. Marguerite is a source of encouragement, inspiration, and hope for so many. We are honored to present her with the 2023 Richard J. Caron Award of Excellence.
