As Caron’s National Gift Officer, Todd Whitmer has been a tireless advocate for sustainable life-long recovery, advancing Caron’s mission of Recovery for Life. In 2023, he will be back with the Caron New York Advisory Board and the New York team to celebrate Caron’s 30 years in New York City, culminating in the Caron New York Gala on May 22, 2024. He celebrates his own milestone of 50 years in recovery in January 2024.

He specializes in inter-generational family recovery, wellness, scientific addiction research, collaborations with treatment service providers, creativity and clinical programming, employee assistance, and addiction recovery issues in diverse cultural communities. His efforts integrate evidence-based clinical treatment, family systems therapy and the success of 12-step communities. He is passionate about helping individuals in the music and art world find recovery.

Since 1976, he has dedicated his career to advancing recovery services for behavioral health and substance use disorders.

For more than 25 years, Todd has been an asset to Caron through serving a variety of clinical and leadership positions. Most recently, Todd was New York's Regional Vice President from 2008 to 2020. During those 12 years, the New York region raised over $35 million for patient scholarships, increasing accessibility for those who would not have the means for treatment. He led 12 successful Caron New York Galas, helped develop Physician Training Programs, and collaborated on a plethora of alumni activities and recovery services. In the 1990s, he was Vice President of Adult Services, leading Caron’s residential clinical services.

From 2001-2006 prior to Caron, Todd was the Chief Operating Officer at Father Martin’s Ashley (currently named Ashley Addiction Treatment) in Havre de Grace, Maryland. As one who was truly committed to the mission of recovery, Todd was one of the first Certified Addiction Counselors in Pennsylvania.

Todd has been living in recovery since January 1974 and working in the addiction field to help others since 1976. He earned his Master of Science degree in Organization Development from Saint Joseph’s University, Philadelphia.
