Steven Klein

Dr. Steven Klein is a compassionate and highly accomplished physician-scientist specializing in addiction medicine. Currently completing his fellowship at Caron Treatment Centers and Tower Health, Dr. Klein is dedicated to advancing innovative, evidence-based approaches to support recovery for teens, young adults, and individuals facing relapse challenges.

With extensive academic and clinical training, Dr. Klein earned his MD and PhD in Human Genetics through UCLA’s prestigious Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) and completed a Pediatrics and Medical Genetics residency and a post-doctoral research fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). His current research focuses on the role of methylation and stress responses in the heritability and persistence of substance use disorders (SUD), with the goal of developing groundbreaking interventions for treatment.

At Caron, Dr. Klein has played a pivotal role in integrating biologically informed therapies, including the use of GLP-1 receptor agonists to manage cravings in patients with SUD. He is triple board-certified/eligible and brings a wealth of expertise in pediatrics, medical genetics, and addiction medicine.

An active advocate for physician wellness and recovery, Dr. Klein serves as a Board Member and Membership Committee Chair for the International Doctors of Alcoholics Anonymous (IDAA), drawing inspiration from his personal recovery journey. He is equally passionate about improving LGBTQIA+ inclusivity in healthcare, having previously served as Recruitment Chair of POP@CHOP.

Recognized by peers and organizations, Dr. Klein has received honors such as the David Smith Award for Research Excellence and the Denis Weatherstone Fellowship. His peer-reviewed publications and national conference presentations reflect his commitment to bridging cutting-edge science with compassionate, patient-centered care.
