Shannon Tissera

As an outpatient therapist, Shannon Tissera considers what her patients most need in terms of treatment and to succeed in their life in recovery. At every step of the way, she works with them and her colleagues to offer effective, evidence-based treatment and support. She utilizes a trauma informed lens, and is trained in EMDR as a trauma treatment modality as well as trauma-informed experiential therapy (includes sociometry, psychodrama, and adventure based counseling). She is also a Certified Experiential Therapist.

Shannon facilitates the intensive outpatient program for teens and the recovery maintenance group for adults. She also counsels and guides patients in individual therapy and helps with the initial intake assessments.

Before taking on this role in 2023, Shannon was an intern at Caron Outpatient Treatment Center from August 2022 to June 2023. In that role, she also provided individual and group counseling. For an undergraduate internship, Shannon co-facilitated group therapy for Temple University students. She also had internships as a research and lab assistant at Temple and at Columbia University.

Her previous experience includes three years as a case manager at PA Career Link, a state government employment service. She assisted young adults to figure out their career and educational goals and work toward achieving them. That role honed her ability to empathize with, guide, and support young people and others in overcoming personal and systemic challenges.

Shannon has a Master of Science in mental health counseling from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Temple University, Philadelphia.
