Dr. Margaret King

As the Endowed Chair for Trauma Treatment, Dr. Margaret King develops, coordinates, and implements trauma-informed practices within the organization to ensure that Caron provides a safe and compassionate environment for patients and staff as well as specialized trauma treatment for patients.

She oversees trauma treatment throughout the continuum, from assessment and referrals to psychoeducation and therapies, which include EMDR as well as holistic therapies like trauma-sensitive yoga. In addition, she provides training on trauma-informed care and resiliency to Caron staff, alumni, families, and community partners.

Dr. King joined Caron in 2017 as a staff psychologist working with individuals across the life span. She is a certified provider of CPT and an EMDRIA-certified therapist and consultant in training. She has an integrative approach to therapy including psychodynamic, EMDR, and cognitive-based therapies (CPT, cognitive behavioral therapy, and dialectical behavior therapy). She is also trained in trauma-focused CBT, internal family systems (IFS), Seeking Safety, motivational interviewing, trauma-expressive art therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).

Dr. King completed her post-doctoral fellowship and worked as a staff psychologist in state correctional institutions. Her primary clinical responsibilities were individual and group psychotherapy, crisis management and intervention, and psychological evaluations for individuals suffering from severe and persistent mental illness, personality disorders, complex and developmental traumas, and co-occurring substance use disorders. In the correctional setting, Dr. King was also trained in critical incident stress management (CISM) and crisis intervention team (CIT).

She presents at local, state, and regional conferences on trauma, addiction, and mental health. She has been an adjunct instructor for several years at various colleges, including West Chester University and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She also served on the Delaware County Drug and Alcohol Planning Council from 2020 to 2023.

Dr. King is a licensed psychologist in Pennsylvania and Delaware. She earned her Doctorate of Clinical Psychology with a concentration in psychological assessment from Chestnut Hill College, Philadelphia. She earned two Bachelor of Science degrees, in psychology and mathematics, from Saint Peter's College, Jersey City, New Jersey.
