Erin Fenkner joined Caron as the Compliance Manager, bringing over 15 years of experience in the behavioral health field. In her role, Erin provides compliance support and guidance across all Caron locations, ensuring the organization operates with integrity and aligns with applicable laws, regulations, and accreditation standards.
Erin collaborates with the compliance team to conduct internal audits in areas such as billing, finance, human resources, research, and grants, while also leading compliance investigations when necessary. Erin also oversees state licensing and CARF accreditation processes, from pre-survey preparation to on-site support, and helps develop plans of correction to ensure sustained compliance. Additionally, she serves as a compliance advisor for new organizational projects, identifying and mitigating potential regulatory risks early in the process.
Erin’s approach to compliance is rooted in empathy and practicality. She practices “person-centered compliance,” taking the time to explain the purpose and benefits of regulations, as well as the risks of noncompliance. By helping staff understand the “why” behind the rules, Erin empowers them to make informed decisions, fostering stronger and more sustainable compliance throughout the organization.
What Erin loves most about her role is the opportunity to support teams across the organization, from front-line staff to executive leadership. She takes pride in knowing her work helps safeguard patients, support staff, and strengthen Caron as a whole. A self-proclaimed “compliance nerd,” Erin has a passion for navigating the complexities of laws and regulations and enjoys collaborating with teams to find practical, effective solutions.
Before joining Caron, Erin worked as a Compliance Specialist at a large non-profit behavioral health organization. Her extensive background in the behavioral health field, which began in 2007, includes roles such as Behavioral Health Technician, Life Skills Coordinator, Counselor, Clinical Supervisor, and Facility Director. She also served as a Licensing Specialist with the Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs. This hands-on experience gives Erin a unique perspective on the challenges of balancing regulatory standards with day-to-day responsibilities, allowing her to provide meaningful, actionable support to staff.
Erin holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Penn State and is certified in healthcare compliance (CHC) through the Health Care Compliance Association.
