As the Corporate Director of Risk Management, Courtney Schwartz is responsible for overseeing risk prevention and mitigation for Caron Treatment Centers.
Courtney manages the insurance and safety programs to ensure all Caron locations have risk management plans in place. Additionally, she is responsible for reviewing contracts from a risk and liability perspective and handling issues related to cyber security risk in partnership with Caron’s IMS and IT staff.
Since the outbreak of COVID-19 at the beginning of 2020, she has had a large focus on managing the corporate mitigation and response efforts to reduce transmission of the virus, allowing Caron to continue its lifesaving treatment. She also oversaw a substantive revision of the emergency preparedness plan, focusing on loss prevention and practical steps to enhance safety and security.
Prior to starting her current role in 2021, Courtney joined Caron in 2019 in a newly created position as risk manager. She coordinated a shift from responsive risk management to preventive risk management, creating a plan that is coordinated across all departments and locations and consider day-to-day operations and strategic objectives.
Prior to coming to Caron, Courtney was in nursing for more than 15 years, most recently as a director of nursing. She is working on a dual master’s degree in corporate law and business administration at Widener University Delaware Law School. She has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Penn State.
While risk management is not direct patient care, it is an important component of that care in that we ensure that patients, families, and staff are safe.”
