Alexandra Santoro

Dr. Alex Santoro is the psychologist and director for Caron’s Healthcare Professionals Program. A member of Caron’s Healthcare Professionals treatment team since 2019, Dr. Santoro believes in a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach to evaluation and treatment that emphasizes person-centered care and mutual respect between providers and patients in safety sensitive professions.

Dr. Santoro’s role in the Healthcare Professionals Program includes providing psychological assessment and treatment services, professional consultation, and program oversight. She additionally offers individualized support to healthcare professionals seeking evaluation and/or treatment at Caron. She also liaises with state licensing boards and professional monitoring programs on behalf of their participants.

In addition to her role in the Healthcare Professionals Program, Dr. Santoro is a member of Caron’s trauma services and psychological testing teams. She is certified in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and is a rostered provider of cognitive processing therapy. Her theoretical orientation is rooted in cognitive behavioral therapy, and her therapeutic approach is informed by person-centered therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and dialectical behavior therapy principles.

Dr. Santoro has experience working with individuals who struggle with a broad range of mental health concerns, including psychosis, mood instability, depression, anxiety, trauma, maladaptive personality functioning, cognitive concerns, and substance use. In addition to her work with healthcare professionals, Dr. Santoro also has experience working with other specific populations, including individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Her pre-doctoral training in psychological assessment and intervention largely took place in inpatient psychiatric hospitals and outpatient clinics in the Philadelphia area.

Dr. Santoro earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and her Master of Science in Counseling from Villanova University.
