Old City’s latest all-day cafe doses coffee, tea, and mocktails with kava and kratom

Old City Kava Company is offering kava- and kratom-infused mocktails as an alcohol-free social alternative.

Dr. Adam Scioli notes that while botanical kratom is far less potent than its synthetic counterpart, it still carries addiction and health risks. “What concerns me most clinically is that kratom is often perceived as ‘natural and therefore safe,’” he says. "History has repeatedly shown us that natural substances can still carry significant addiction risk, especially once commercialized.”

The lounge highlights the growing interest in alcohol-free social spaces, but experts caution that “natural” substances can still pose serious risks when commercialized.
