Michael Perlman has been a family therapist at Caron Renaissance since 2018. He was a member of the first group of Caron therapists to be trained in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), an evidence-based treatment that has been proven to effectively treat patients. He was instrumental in implementing the DBT program at Caron Renaissance.
Michael began working at Caron Renaissance as a counselor assistant in 2014 and was promoted to a primary therapist in 2015. Michael came to Renaissance as an intern in 2013 while getting his master’s degree. With that varied experience at Caron, he has seen how patient care and quality drive Caron’s approach at all levels of the organization. That attention to care, the emphasis on treating the precipitating issue, and ensuring that the whole family receives treatment have given Michael a deep respect for Caron and his colleagues.
Michael’s education and professional experience prepared him to successfully work with dual-diagnosis patients and their families. He began his career working with children on the autism spectrum and their families, serving as both an educator and a support for the entire family.
Michael holds a bachelor’s degree in general psychology and a master’s degree in applied counseling from Lynn University, with a specialty in addiction. Michael also is a licensed mental health counselor, with advanced training in DBT.
