Addiction is rarely isolated. Those who suffer from serious drug problems often simultaneously meet criteria for mental health disorders. When both conditions are present, individuals are said to have co-occurring disorders.

Co-occurring mental health disorders and drug or alcohol addictions impact one another and must be treated simultaneously with integrated treatment. A proven approach to addiction rehab, integrated treatment has been shown to yield the most successful results. Positive outcomes of integrated care include: abstinence from drugs and alcohol; reduction in maladaptive mental health symptoms; and improvements in physical, familial, social, occupational and spiritual aspects of life.

At Caron, we provide world-class integrated behavioral health treatment to help addicts recover from both drug problems and mental health disorders. Nearly 85% of the patients we treat have co-occurring disorders, including:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Personality disorder
  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Body image and eating disorders
  • Addiction Interaction Disorder (AID), including gambling and sex addiction

All-encompassing care

Our goal for every patient is to restore wellness in the body, mind and spirit. Caron's certified clinical staff is trained to recognize and treat substance abuse disorders, co-occurring disorders, Addiction Interaction Disorders (AID), and trauma-related issues.

Each patient’s multidisciplinary treatment team includes staff from several disciplines:

  • Medical personnel – to assess and treat physical effects of addiction
  • Nursing staff – to provide daily medication monitoring and triage
  • Licensed and certified addiction counselors – to provide individual, family, and group addiction counseling
  • Counselor assistant staff – to provide guidance and assistance with daily living tasks that are often overwhelming to a newly sober person
  • Licensed psychologists – to assess every patient who comes into treatment and provide treatment to those with mental health needs
  • Pastoral staff – to provide support and relief from the spiritual devastation caused by addiction
  • Recreation staff – to work with patients on obtaining and incorporating a physically healthy lifestyle into their recovery journeys
  • Nutrition staff- to provide education and guidance to patients who have long neglected their health

The multidisciplinary team educates patients and their families about the complicating factors that can arise from co-occurring mental health disorders and substance addiction.  The team utilizes various treatment modalities across programs and facilities, including:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
  • Motivational Interviewing
