Teresa Bairos has been a family therapist at Caron Renaissance since 2018. In her role, she provides family and group counseling and crisis intervention and facilitates the family workshop program.

Applying family systems theory to help Renaissance patients and families establish healthy adult relationships is a critical component of her approach.

Teresa has worked with children and families in a variety of roles since 1999. As a therapist, she has supported families coping with mental illness, addiction, trauma, and acculturation. She believes that the work she does with patients and families “comes down to finding a connection. The reality is that this work can be frustrating but those moments when you make a connection with a patient or family member and move them forward in their treatment make it worthwhile.”

She served the U.S. military overseas providing both psychoeducation and treatment around suicide prevention, domestic violence, acute trauma response, and post-deployment reintegration. Teresa has been a lead therapist, family therapist, program developer, clinical director, and clinical supervisor.

She has additional training in attention deficit and hyperactivity management, Collaborative Problem Solving approach, and co-occurring disorders. As a certified Gottman Institute couple’s therapist, Teresa works with families seeking to strengthen their relationships and improve parenting skills. She serves her community as an autism awareness advocate supporting families and educators.

She is a licensed marriage and family therapist with a Master of Arts degree in marital and family therapy from the University of Connecticut.
