Mr. Christin brought a lifetime of experience to his role as Executive Director of the Legal Professionals Program at Caron Treatment Centers. As an attorney, licensed and board-certified drug and addiction counselor, therapist, speaker, and author, he had focused for the last seven years exclusively on the treatment of impaired legal professionals in both residential and outpatient settings.

David Rotenberg, Chief Clinical Officer

We were deeply saddened to learn about the untimely passing of Link Christin, Executive Director of Caron’s Legal Professionals Program. I was fortunate to work closely with Link since the inception of the legal professional’s program four years ago. I experienced firsthand Link’s unwavering commitment to the patients in his program as well as his dedication to raising awareness about mental health and substance use disorder in the legal community. Link was a tireless advocate for creating a wellness-centered culture among lawyers. His 2019 series in Attorney at Work highlighting critical life skills for lawyers that are not typically taught in law school was among the publication’s best-read articles last year. During this difficult time, I am comforted by the knowledge that his voice made a difference in the lives of so many and that his legacy will live on.

Link has launched and managed this national program for lawyers, judges, law students, and paralegals who are in residential treatment. This specialty offering provides education and clinical engagement from pre-entry through continuing care. He and his team provide significant and tangible counseling and resources to these professionals multiple times per week while the patients engage in the world-class services and programs at Caron.

Mr. Christin previously practiced law for more than 25 years and was a civil trial lawyer and a partner in two law firms in Pittsburgh, PA. After serving as the Administrator of the National Trial Advocacy College at the University of Virginia School of Law he transitioned to a second career, obtaining his Master’s in Addiction Counseling from the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School of Addiction Studies. At that time he founded and directed the first national legal professionals program of its kind at Hazelden Betty Ford, and after more than four years created and served as CEO for Heightened Performance LLC, a behavioral consulting firm for lawyers.

During this time he was an Adjunct Professor at the William Mitchell School of Law, as well as an Assistant Professor at the Hazelden Betty Ford School of Addiction Studies. He was recently appointed as a Vice-Chair of the American Bar Association’s Substance Use Disorder Task Force.

Finally, Mr. Christin continues to speak and write nationally about behavioral health subjects relating to lawyers and law firms, addiction, depression, stress, anxiety, work/life balance, wellness, and re-igniting professional passion. His most recent article “Confronting Addiction in the Law Firm” was the cover story of Legal Management Magazine’s March 2017 issue.
