About the Program

The Satell Family Children and Teens Program at Caron Pennsylvania educates children and teens about the disease of addiction and how it affects each family member. Our program provides children and teens ages 7-15 with the coping tools they need to:

  • Find hope while living in a family impacted by chemical abuse
  • Improve their self-esteem
  • Empower them to make healthy choices
  • Open new lines of communication with family members

The goal of The Satell Family Children and Teens Program is to provide an educational and fun experience in a safe and caring environment. The program will help children and teens learn and build the skills they need to:

  • Understand that addiction is a disease that progresses over time
  • Understand that they are not responsible for their loved one’s addiction
  • Understand that addiction impacts their family members and themselves
  • Understand the process of treatment and recovery
  • Identify a support system and how to utilize them
  • Develop healthy coping and problem-solving skills

The Satell Family Children and Teens Program is a one day program and occurs on the second Saturday every other month on the Caron PA campus in Wernersville. In order for a child or teen to participate in the program, they must:

  • Be between the ages of 7 and 15*
  • Complete a brief registration and Q&A session by Caron's admissions department prior to being accepted into the program to ensure a safe environment for all participants
*Teens ages 16 and older are eligible to participate in Caron's Family Education Programs

The program is not considered to be treatment, so no medical record is maintained. At the end of the program, each family will be provided with a list of resources in their hometown to continue the healing process.
