Individuals who grew up with an alcoholic, commonly referred to as adult children of alcoholics (ACOA), make up 18% of the adult American population. Whether they exhibit emotional scars or function at a high level, adult children of alcoholics often face moments of crisis when the past inevitably catches up with them. Although we cannot change the past of an ACOA, healing and recovery are possible with support and guidance.
Begin to Heal with Breakthrough ACOA
Breakthrough ACOA is a one-day workshop for adult children of alcoholics. Through experiential group therapy, the workshop helps ACOAs understand the effects of growing up with alcoholism and develop tools for becoming an authentic, secure and self-aware adult. Experiential work has been proven to help adult children of alcoholics reduce shame, improve self-esteem and form healthier relationships.
Using Breakthrough ACOA as a Professional
The Breakthrough ACOA for Professionals workshop trains therapists and clinical professionals to understand the ACOA perspective. Our one-day workshop helps develop strategies to guide ACOAs toward recovery. Experiential group exercises are utilized as a teaching tool.
