Sunday provides an opportunity to meet the evening staff and other members of the group, complete necessary paperwork and receive room assignments. Clients then enjoy dinner together in the Caron dining facility after which they are taken to their rooms so they may unpack. Once settled, the first structured peer group begins and continues until approximately 9:30 p.m.
Most weeks, Monday begins with a presentation and two experiential exercises. This session lays the groundwork for the week and provides essential information based on attachment theory to help clients begin their personal work.
The goal of Tuesday is to become more personally aware of emotions, how they are managed in your life and ways that they may disruptive to your peace of mind. The group bonds begin to deepen through experiential group exercises surrounding grief, painful life events and the personal risks taken whenever feelings and sometimes long held secrets are revealed. Tuesday’s evening peer group focuses on developing healthy boundaries.
Through the use of safe, innovative action methods along with psychodrama and group support, each individual is able to address significant issues or patterns with the help and guidance of two skilled therapists. Wednesday and Thursday evening groups are designed to help clients process what they have experienced during the day and to begin to look forward to integrating their personal experience in the future.
The Friday morning group provides an opportunity for each person to receive feedback and guidance that contributes to their personal written plan for continuing their work after Breakthrough. Participants are given the opportunity for group closure and provided with very specific tools based on the experiences of those who have walked before them, which helps to ease their transition home with the confidence that they will be able to maintain what they have gained.
