Spiritual Friday: Spiritual Perspective

Spiritual Friday: Spiritual Perspective 9/8/17

"We do not see things as they are. We see them as we are." - The Talmud

We will experience life on the outside according to our life on the inside. Life changes from within. Looking at life from a spiritual perspective means looking at life through the eyes of love. We are able to see this way as we do our inner work – when we let go, forgive, pray, meditate, do step work, share, give selflessly, and heal.

"No matter where you are now, no matter what happened in your life, you can choose your thoughts and you can change your life." - Anonymous

"Your positive thoughts are both the prayer and the answer to your prayer." - Bryant McGill

"The happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts." - Marcus Aurelius

"First we must understand that the purpose of a spiritual journey is to change our personal reality. In other words, the actions we take will cause us to see everything differently. Our world may be the same but we will see it in a new way." - Sandy Beach, Dear Friend

A patient shared this poem:

Worst Day Ever?
By Chanie Gorkin

Today was the absolute worst day ever
And don't try to convince me that
There's something good in every day
Because, when you take a closer look,
This world is a pretty evil place.
Even if
Some goodness does shine through once in a while
Satisfaction and happiness don't last.
And it's not true that
It's all in the mind and heart
Because
True happiness can be attained
Only if one's surroundings are good
It's not true that good exists
I'm sure you can agree that
The reality
Creates
My attitude
It's all beyond my control
And you'll never in a million years hear me say
Today was a very good day

Now read it from bottom to top, the other way,
And see what I really feel about my day.

How are you looking at your life?

Our patients often focus on what they don't have, what they can't do, and what they don't like instead of what they do have, what they can do, and who they do like. I’d like to help them see that they have a choice. What good can come from focusing on guilt, shame, pain, and anger?

I love what Dr. Wayne Dyer said, "Open your mind to all possibilities, because whether you believe something is possible or impossible, either way you'll be right!"

The patients had many prayer requests on this day and also shared their joys – there are good things happening!!

I shared a really great video related to our topic. The patients LOVED it and I hope you will too!

"Our goal should be to live life in radical amazement... get up every morning and look at the world in a way that takes nothing for granted. Everything is phenomenal; everything is incredible; never treat life casually. To be spiritual is to be amazed." - Abraham Joshua Heschel

That's a beautiful perspective.
