"...We are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness...We will comprehend the word serenity and we will know peace...Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change..."
Over the last several weeks, our Spiritual Fridays were spent exploring, questioning and coming to a deeper understanding of the spiritual principles at the core of each of the 12 Steps - principles that if lived, will create miracles and change lives forever. They are the stepping-stones to the beloved "Promises" found on page 83 of the Big Book.
Steps 1 – 3 are about honesty, hope, and faith - These get us right with G-d.
Steps 4 – 7 are about courage, integrity, willingness, and humility – These get us right with ourselves.
Steps 8 & 9 are about brotherly/sisterly love and discipline – These get us right with each other.
Steps 10 – 12 are about perseverance, awareness, and loving service – these keep us right with G-d, ourselves, & others.
This Friday the patients were given a "spiritual directive"...random acts of anonymous kindness, encouragement in the community. Each patient could choose to do one of the following:
1.) Give an angel card with a blessing
2.) Write a blessing or good wish on post it notes
3.) Commit to praying for someone and give them a card that says "I said a prayer for you today."
I asked them to be aware of how they feel as they do this for another person without the person knowing, without validation or affirmation from outside but rather from within themselves – this is a "higher love."
"Never underestimate the strength you give someone when you believe in them." ~anonymous

Closing Prayer for You
Sometimes believing that I am worthy of Your love is difficult for me. I look at my reflection in the mirror, and I see someone who isn't enough. But then in the quiet moments when I ask why it is that I am the way I am, I hear you say,
"Because you are precious to me and honored and I love you."
And then when I look in the mirror again, I see a new person, someone who is more than enough. You created me, and how can I ever doubt your work? G-d, let me be more understanding of myself. Let me see myself as You see me. Open my eyes so that I can see beauty that not only surrounds me, but also shines in my face for others to see. Open my mind to the potential for spiritual understanding that You have placed within me. Open my heart to Your love, Your peace, Your compassion so that I may be an expression of You in all that I do. Dear G-d, let me see what You see in me, and give me the courage to be who I am.
Thank you G-d.
