Spiritual Friday: Discipline & Perseverance

Discipline & Perseverance

 Discipline & Perseverance

Marvel at the life force within a tiny blade of grass that breaks through the crack in the asphalt and grows. Such a tiny thing. Such a mighty force. Marvel at the divine force within you, greater than any obstacle you may encounter.

Mother Teresa's "Anyway"

People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered.
Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind,
people may accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Be kind anyway.

If you are successful,
you will win some false friends and some true enemies.
Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank,
people may cheat you.
Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building,
someone could destroy overnight.
Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness,
they may be jealous.
Be happy anyway.

The good you do today,
people will often forget tomorrow.
Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have,
and it may never be enough.
Give the best you've got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis it is between you and G-d; it was never between you and them anyway.
On the topic of "Awareness" we had a "Patient Led Spiritual Friday" that was indescribably beautiful; we have so many talented patients. Held at Unity Church in Delray Beach we had performances on the organ, piano and guitar as well as original poetry readings and a singing performance that I will never forget. One of our patients proudly sang "Skin.” I wish I could link her singing it but I have linked the original by Nikki Sixx with the lyrics, please listen. This is so powerfully meaningful...reminding us that we are so much more than we know or show.

"Around us, life bursts with miracles-a glass of water, a ray of sunshine, a leaf, a caterpillar, a flower, laughter, raindrops.  If you live in awareness, it is easy to see miracles everywhere.  Each human being is a multiplicity of miracles.  Eyes that see thousands of colors, shapes, and forms; ears that hear a bee flying or a thunderclap; a brain that ponders a speck of dust as easily as the entire cosmos; a heart that beats in rhythm with the heartbeat of all beings.  When we are tired and feeling discouraged by life's daily struggles, we may not notice these miracles, but they are always there.   ~  Thich Nhat Hanh
