Last Spiritual Friday, we wanted to give the patients some time to explore the incredible gift of unconditional love. We spent time looking at and listening to what that kind of love feels like and what it is capable of. We asked many questions:
- Who has loved you unconditionally?
- Do you believe your Higher Power loves you unconditionally? How?
- Do you love yourself without condition?
- Who do you love unconditionally?
We began our large group with several readings. Here are a few:
"By giving unconditional love, we become more loving, and by sharing spiritual growth, we become more spiritually awake." - Just For Today
There is no difficulty that enough love will not conquer;
No disease that enough love will not heal;
No door that enough love will not open;
No gulf that enough love will not bridge;
No wall that enough love will not throw down;
No sin that enough love will not redeem.
It makes no difference how deeply seated
may be the trouble,
how hopeless the outlook,
how muddles the tangle,
how great the mistake -
a sufficient realization of love
will dissolve it all.
If only you could love enough,
you would be the happiest and most
powerful being in the world.
- Emmet Fox
"We have a right to be here. We have a right to be ourselves. We are here. There is a purpose, a reason, and an intention for our life. We do not have to apologize for being here or being who we are.
We have already spent too much time being ashamed, being apologetic, and doubting the beauty of ourselves. Be done with that. Let it go. It is an unnecessary burden. Others have rights, but so do we. We are neither less than nor more than. We are equal. We are who we are. That is who we were created and intended to be. That, my friend, is a wonderful gift." - Just For Today, March 24
We continued the theme of love without conditions in our meditation as Charlene played the crystal bowl.
We gave the patients thank you note cards and asked them to write and thank someone who has given them unconditional love; someone who has never given up on them and who has loved them no matter what. These notes were written to: a brother, a mother, a dog, G-d, and music. The patients kept the notes to help them be in the presence of love and be grateful.
The greatest gift you can give is the gift of yourself. The sun is the mother of life. She gives her light generously and evenly all over the earth. Like the sun, each one of us can share the light of our souls, generously and without condition.
We suggested this attitude can begin right here in the community.
I showed two You Tube Videos, each one beautifully touching. The song "Rise Up" was played after the note card writing - please listen. The other one is simply lovely and heartfelt.
Blessings of unconditional love both to you and from you.
