Today Teddy’s family and friends, and many others, continue to honor his memory by carrying on his devotion to helping others, through providing assistive technology for persons with spinal cord injuries who cannot afford the help they need. Teddy’s Star Foundation is helping others to help themselves, and is devoted to healing and transformation.
Healing and transformation is the connection to Caron Treatment Centers through The Blake’s Star Fund, created through a charitable gift in 2015. The Blake’s Star Fund is devoted to providing financial support for adolescents and young adults struggling with addiction complicated by suicidal ideation or gestures, and who cannot otherwise afford treatment at Caron.
At age 20, Blake found himself in the tight grip of active drug addiction. Blake’s journey ended tragically, and his family became determined to lead an effort to end this sort of suffering for others. Hoping to support those in need with the benefits of treatment at Caron, and that families be spared the grief and suffering addiction and suicide brings, Blake’s family provided the financial gift that created Blake’s Star.
Awareness is increasing about the opiate and heroin drug epidemic across the nation. Teddy’s Star Foundation believes it is a public health crisis that demands more resources and increased accessibility to the best drug treatment and recovery services available. The mission of the Blake’s Star Fund is to provide access to recovery and rehabilitative support for persons in need that cannot afford it. Teddy’s Star Foundation has joined hands with the Caron Treatment Centers to deliver the recovery resources for the Blake’s Star Program. The long-range intention is to not only treat those in need of financial assistance, but to also develop ever-improving treatment methods and enhancing prevention efforts.
Together, and in memory of Blake, this important initiative will save the lives of adolescents and young adults impacted by depression, trauma, and the pain of addiction.
