Bingo, raffles, prizes, refreshments… a very lighthearted event is targeting a very serious need. Through “Designer Bag Bingo,” parents of Caron alumni in Pennsylvania’s Lehigh County have joined forces to raise funds for Caron’s Chapel Fund.

“My daughter got a scholarship from the Chapel Fund because I had nothing left to pay for her after-care,” says Deanne Goddard. “We’re doing this as a way to give back.”

Assisted by other local Caron parents, Deanne and co-chair Carol Livingston hope to call attention to the opioid epidemic. “It’s a fun, accessible way to get the message out that we have a problem in this area,” Deanne says. “Several parents whose kids received gifts from the Chapel Fund are involved.”

Those gifts often come at a critical juncture. By the time her daughter needed after-care, the family’s finances had taken a significant hit. “We just had no more money for treatment,” Deanne says. “To say I was in a panic is understatement.”

Deanne readily admits it’s her first fundraiser, but what she lacks in experience, she makes up for in determination. “I’ve set a goal of $10,000,” she says. “If this event makes it possible for even one kid to get help from the Chapel Fund, it’s well worth it.”

Your Gift Can Make a Difference

Caron also leads the industry in scholarship care providing more aid to families who cannot afford treatment than three of the recognized treatment centers combined. Caron not only dedicates a percentage of patient revenue to scholarship care, we are also fortunate to be able to partner with family, friends and corporate leaders to raise scholarship dollars that go directly to helping patients and their families recover from this devastating disease. Unfortunately, there are still families who cannot afford treatment. Your gift, regardless of the size, will help us begin to bridge this financial gap.

All donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law, as no goods or services were provided in consideration of your gift. Please note that if you received an auction item or service, these items are not tax deductible because you are getting something in return for your money. Only donations above the value of the goods or services received are tax deductible.
