In 2014 James J Holowach lost his fight against the disease of alcoholism. Jim was the best friend I ever had. He was also my husband. He left behind my step-son CJ, his parents, his younger brother and sister-in-law, and many nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Jim. He was adored by everyone including CJ's mom's large extended family - as well as my family,
Like so many of you who have a loved one facing addiction, we did not know where to turn, but when Jim was dedicated to his recovery we found help at the Caron Treatment Center; a Non-profit Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center located in Wernersville, PA.
Caron is a lifesaver for both the patient and their families and this is why when CJ, Jim's son, struggled with addiction as a young adult after losing his father, He made the courageous choice to reach out to Caron Treatment Center. CJ is now in long term recovery and has followed his passion in helping other young adults enter and maintain early recovery from addiction.
CJ works in the Collegiate Recovery Program and is helping with the management of two Caron Collegiate Recovery Houses, located at Alvernia University in Reading, PA and Lebanon Valley College in Annville, PA. These on campus recovery houses are vital for young adults in early recovery trying to re-acclimate into a college setting to achieve their academic dreams and get back on the path to a healthy and productive life.
We are so fortunate that Jim found some solace while at Caron and that CJ has found success after attending their program. Our combined families are working on remodeling, redesigning and upgrading the Student Lounge in Jim's honor. The student lounge will be located on Caron's Campus and serve as a classroom/lounge for young adult patients ages 15-25. It will give them a "safe space" to focus on academics while attending treatment to learn how to achieve and maintain long term sobriety.
Jim was a laid back and relaxed "beach bum" who always made us smile, and our vision for the James J Holowach Student Lounge is to capture that same vibe. We want these young adults to know there is no stigma to entering a rehabilitation facility. We want them to feel comfortable, to continue their educations, and to learn to how to find joy while abstaining from drugs and alcohol.
Private family donations have been made already but we are still in need of additional funding as there are high costs for renovations, furniture, computers, maintenance and to dedicate the room forever in Jim's name. Our goal is $50,000 but the more we can raise, the more we can do, to create an uplifting environment for these young adult patients who are brave enough to enter in to an early recovery program.
Jim's family, friends and most importantly, the patients/students at Caron who will utilize this lounge will be forever grateful for any donation to help achieve this goal. All donations are tax deductible and will help change lives.
We know Jim is smiling down on us as the project continues to move forward!
