What is addiction? Many view it as a choice, a question of will power, or a moral failing. As a result, substance use disorder leads to isolation and shame. Many are left with overwhelming questions: How bad is it? How did this happen? Is it my fault? What does this mean? What do I do now? Join us for a family program to uncover answers to these questions.

Families experience shock and fear when they begin to suspect a loved one may have a substance use problem. Feeling scared and alone, they do not know how to help or where to turn. As if they are standing alone in the middle of a frozen lake - they are on thin ice.

This presentation provides a conceptual framework for addiction and recovery, and details a process for family recovery. First, participants will understand addiction and what it means to be powerless over drugs and alcohol. Second, they will learn how to help a loved one without contributing to the problem. Third, and most critically, they will be given guidance on how to begin healing themselves.
