Society frequently and mistakenly views substance use disorders as a choice, a lack of control or a moral failing. When teens and young adult use addictive substance, it impacts their parents and the entire family system. Feeling alone and afraid, parents often question what they should do next. As a result, creating and communicating boundaries can be a daunting process. As these boundaries are continuously challenged and violated, parents become increasingly exhausted and overwhelmed.

This presentation focuses on how parents can live with addiction without becoming consumed by it. It will explain how to develop, communicate, and hold healthy boundaries that support recovery. The presenters will also provide parents with tools to focus on their own self-care and to build healthy coping skills.
