This training will present information on the fastest growing population who are in need of addiction treatment as well as information on treatment for the Caregivers. Materials will focus on the differences of treating older adults in addiction treatment, their vulnerabilities to addictive substances and complications of medications and co-occurring issues using an integrated approach with a major focus on medical, spiritual, grief and loss, the family dynamics and caregiving, addiction affecting many generations and finding quality and purpose of life.

This training will provide the participants an understanding of the need for specialized older adult addiction treatment; the treatment components necessary to provide a well-rounded integrated approach for older adult care; increased knowledge to develop and address the clinical needs necessary to treat the entire family system, including husbands and wives, adult children, grandchildren, siblings, with particular focus on caregiving.

About The Presenter
Sharon Matthew

Sharon Matthew is the Clinical Director of the Older Adult Program, a program for mature adults at Caron Treatment Centers. An employee of Caron for over 21 years she developed and supervised the Women's Extended Care program for 15 years and was part of developing the Older Adult Program, which began in February of 2015. Sharon has a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology, is a Licensed Professional Counselor, an Advanced Certified Relapse Prevention Specialist, a Certified Clinical Supervisor, and a Certified Sex Addiction Therapy and Certified Multiple Addictions Therapist. Sharon is also a co-facilitator of the chronic pain group for adult patients. She presents nationally on Addiction Interaction, Effective Treatment for Addicted Older Adults and Caregivers, and Women in Recovery: Healing the Shame.
