Addiction is a devastating, frightening and confusing disease for anyone to experience. This is especially true when emotionally traumatic experiences have a complex impact on individuals with behavioral health and substance use diagnoses. Many times, the substance abuser is not the only one who suffers. The family members often feel like they are drowning scared, lost, angry, overwhelmed, and alone. This seminar will provide participants with information about addiction and trauma interaction, treatment information based on best practices and recovery. Those who attend will leave with a better understanding of the problem, tools to stay afloat, and knowledge of how to keep your head above water hen trauma and addiction is all around you.

Anne-Marie Loose
Ann-Marie Loose

Ann-Marie Loose, MSW, LSW, CAADC, CCS is the Director of Family Services at Caron Pennsylvania, where she oversees and works closely with Caron’s program-specific Family Education Programs (FEP) for adolescents, young adults, adults, seniors and relapse individuals. She holds the Ed Satell Family Chair for Children and Adolescent Education. Ann-Marie joined Caron in 2005 and in 2012, she began working exclusively with families impacted by addiction. In addition to her role with FEP, Ann-Marie also serves as a resource for Caron’s Parent and Family Support Groups and the My First Year of Recovery online aftercare program. Ann-Marie has worked extensively with families and individuals with co-occurring behavioral health and substance abuse diagnoses. Her areas of expertise include women and addiction, families and recovery, relationships in addiction and recovery, along with parents and recovery. Ann-Marie is a Licensed Social Worker, a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and a Certified Clinical Supervisor.

Michele Pole

Michele Pole, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist licensed in Pennsylvania and is the Director of Psychology at Caron. She joined Caron in 2008.
Dr. Pole has training in numerous evidence-based treatment approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness-based approaches. Additionally, she is trained in several treatments addressing PTSD and trauma including Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure Therapy, and Eye-Movement Desensitization Therapy (EMDR). The Third Wave CBT is her identified theoretical orientation and is a member of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS) and The Association for Contextual Behavioral. Sciences (ACBS). Dr. Pole has particular interest in and experience working with patients who experience PTSD and/or trauma responses and Eating Disorders. With her emphasis on the value of research to guide her clinical practice, Dr. Pole has publications in peer-reviewed journals. In addition to research and treatment, she also provides psychological testing using personality testing, diagnostic testing, and neuropsychological testing.
