With the explosion of “luxury” treatment providers marketing to wealthy patients and their families in the past two decades, attention to the unique cultural markers of the human beings whose business they solicit is often absent.

This presentation will outline the latest research relating to the intrapersonal, interpersonal and sociocultural experience of being a person of wealth. Participants will then explore their own conscious and unconscious reactions towards individuals and families of wealth.

The course will include a role play between the two presenters and a participatory discussion of the reactions the role play invokes in the participants. Participants will explore the tenants of feminist theory and how it is effectively utilized in treatment of this population.

At the end of this course participants should be able to:
1. Understand the construct of cultural competency and its role in effective treatment of minority populations.
2. Understand the lived experience of individuals and families of wealth.
3. Understand their own conscious and unconscious reactions towards individuals and families of wealth.
4. Integrate culturally relevant and clinically effective interventions into their practice.
5. Formulate clinical interventions related to the family life cycle
