Ahh!!! So the doldrums of winter are being left behind (hopefully…the groundhog predicted it, so it must be true)! The planet is beginning to warm up once more, trees are coming out of their hibernation, as are animals, and the planet we live on is coming back to life.

How has winter treated you this year? At least in Northeast PA, we seemed to have had winter hit us especially hard on one particular weekend…some saying that winter came all at one time.

So as we start to come out of our own state of hibernation, maybe with a sense of cabin fever (for those of us in the colder states), spring is the time for us to begin to once more come to life and start afresh. Its never too late, or too early, to start over! Have you given up on some of your New Year’s resolutions? Maybe you want to recommit yourself to that exercise program or other resolution.

As we begin to clear out the cobwebs and the melancholy that may have slowed us down this past winter, and embrace the season of Spring as one of renewal for us, it may be wise for each of us to sit down and create our own personal checklist of the areas we want to renew.

Due to winter’s cold and ice, did you stop going to certain meetings that maybe you could recommit to going back to?

Gratitude: You made it through winter.  Now may be the time to begin (or continue) working on your spiritual growth through writing and reflecting on those things that you are grateful for, including that you made it through winter. Begin to open up to the new life you can receive through exploring your gratitude list

Maybe you haven’t stayed in as close contact with some of your friends in the rooms because you were hibernating – it’s time to reconnect and bring those friendships back to life.

Is it time to once more renew your commitment to prayer and meditation?

Maybe begin going for walks and connecting with the planet that is coming back to life, enjoying the slightly warmer weather, hearing the birds and other animals coming out of their hiding places, and breathing in deeply the life-giving fresh air around you.

And recommit, or make commitments to your New Year’s Resolutions – it’s never too late to start over!

However you want to find your renewal this spring, remember that recovery is about your journey. Winter may have given you the time to find necessary rest, but now spring is calling to awaken your body, mind and spirit once more, so enjoy the new life from this season of hope!
