Caron Treatment Centers accepts patients aged 13 years or older. For more information on services available to those 12 and under, please learn more about Caron's Student Assistance Program.

The Seniors Program at Caron opened the first week of February, 2014.  It’s had to believe we have been operating for almost one year!  Our program is safe & secure, almost all services are provided on the unit.  We are located in Colonial Oaks Hall, right above the dining room.  We have our own medical examination room, nursing clinic and psychologist on the unit.  Our capacity is 10 patients and each patient has a private room and bath.  The small community affords our patients the opportunity to bond with each other rather quickly and the patients consistently tell our staff how appreciative they are to be in treatment with others in their age group.  Our length of stay is 6 weeks; however on occasion we do accept some 30 day patients.  Senior patients have issues related to overcoming the stigma of identifying themselves as addicted.

They also struggle with a great deal of shame regarding how their families have been affected by their use.  They tend to discuss their issues in general as opposed to personalizing their consequences during group sessions.  Most of their treatment plan assignments are presented during individual sessions as opposed to group therapy.  They respond well to specialized topic groups/lectures   presented daily.  They also enjoy the AM wellness group provided by Caron Wellness staff five mornings per week at 9 AM.   We have all thoroughly enjoyed working with the senior population.  They present with willingness to share their life experience as well as to learn how utilizing 12 Step recovery programs will help them maintain abstinence.

All patients are given a 12 Step alumni contact during treatment.  They are encouraged to begin making contact with their assigned alumnus several times prior to discharge. Patients usually leave treatment with a renewed sense of hope, looking forward to reuniting with their loved ones and friends.  We are all looking forward to having a new location for our brand new Seniors Unit, which will be completed in two years.  The need for senior treatment is growing and we are planning now to meet that challenge.  More information about the Senior Program can be found on our website or by calling our admission staff.
