When a loved one is coping with addiction, the Holiday Season can present its own set of challenges for everyone involved. While thoughts of togetherness and celebrations ring true, the heightened feelings of stress, anxiety or depression are most worrisome for those in recovery or one who is still struggling with an active addiction.

This Holiday Season, ask yourself these seven questions if you are concerned about your loved one being put in a compromised position with drugs or alcohol.

  1. Do you notice them experiencing mood swings or irritation? Or do they seem emotionally or behaviorally “off”?

  2. Are they indulging in compulsory behaviors like overeating, overspending, or sleeping more than usual?

  3. Is your loved one contacting you more often over the holidays, or significantly less often than usual?

  4. Are they spending more time with “old friends” they knew during their active addiction?

  5. Have they missed gatherings or holiday events they agreed to attend?

  6. Have you noticed them isolating themselves during family gatherings—longer trips to the bathroom or to private areas of the house or venue?

  7. Is their physical appearance changing?

If you answered “YES” to any of these questions, please reach out to Caron today. We are here to help keep you and your loved one on the path to recovery during this Holiday Season and any time in the coming year.
