Addiction can affect anyone, regardless of age, background, or life circumstances. At Caron, we treat individuals struggling with a wide range of substance use disorders, offering personalized treatment options and care that addresses both the physical and emotional toll of addiction.

Our residential treatment programs support people experiencing:

  • Alcohol addiction and alcohol use disorder
  • Opioid addiction (including prescription painkillers and heroin)

  • Stimulant addiction (such as cocaine or methamphetamine)

  • Benzodiazepine dependence

  • Process addictions

  • Marijuana use disorder

  • Polysubstance use (misuse of more than one substance)

We proudly support a diverse community of patients, including teens, young adults, adults, older adults, and professionals. We also offer specialized programming for families, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and those dealing with co-occurring disorders and mental health conditions, such as anxiety and depression, which often intersect with substance use. Every person’s journey is unique, and our compassionate, expert team is here to walk alongside you wherever you are in life.

Daily Residential Programming

A typical day includes more than six hours of therapeutic programming, seven days a week. This structured schedule fosters stability, accountability, and lasting change. It typically includes:

  • Group therapy sessions throughout the day
  • One individual counseling session weekly (or two for Signature Programming participants)
  • Optional recovery-based support group sessions such as DHARMA, SMART Recovery, and 12-Step meetings
  • Weekly talks from Caron alumni who share their recovery journeys, offering valuable insight and inspiration as you navigate your own path

Additional scheduled activities include educational lectures, wellness experiences, and therapeutic assignments.

Therapeutic Approaches & Clinical Modalities

Caron’s residential inpatient programs use evidence-based therapies tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual. These approaches are designed to help patients better understand the root causes of substance use and teach them the tools needed for sustainable recovery. During your time in treatment, you may participate in a range of clinical modalities, including:

Medically Managed Detoxification

For many, the first step in recovery is safely and comfortably withdrawing from substances and cravings. Our medical detox services are delivered in a supportive, compassionate environment under the care of experienced healthcare professionals.

We prioritize safety, dignity, and individualized care to help ease both the physical and emotional discomfort of withdrawal. Detox is the beginning of healing and the gateway to deeper therapeutic work that follows.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT helps you identify and reframe negative thought patterns that lead to unhealthy behaviors. It’s a proven method for treating addiction, anxiety, depression, and other co-occurring conditions.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

DBT focuses on emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. It teaches mindfulness and coping strategies for managing intense feelings and navigating relationships, skills essential for long-term recovery.

Trauma-Informed Care

Many individuals struggling with addiction have also experienced trauma. Caron uses a trauma-informed approach to ensure care is safe, supportive, and sensitive to each patient’s experiences. This can include individual therapy, group sessions, and somatic practices to address trauma in a healthy way.

Motivational Interviewing (MI)

Motivational Interviewing is a strengths-based, empowering approach that helps individuals tap into their own desire for growth and change. Through compassionate, collaborative conversations, MI encourages people to explore their goals, build confidence, and take meaningful steps toward recovery. It’s especially powerful in helping individuals recognize their potential and take ownership of their healing journey.

Family Involvement in Treatment

Personalized care is a cornerstone of Caron treatment. These help strengthen relationships, foster understanding, and support healing for all involved. In addition to weekly individual therapy:

  • You’ll participate in at least one family therapy session during your stay.
  • Our clinical team provides regular family update calls (you choose who receives them).
  • Intensive family treatment may be available depending on your program.
  • Caron’s Family Education Program is offered virtually and in person, providing support, resources, and education to your loved ones. It typically lasts three days over a weekend during your stay.

We also provide additional family services for your family during and after your treatment.

Nutrition & Community Meals

Caron provides delicious and healthy meals three times a day. Attending meals is highly recommended, as proper nutrition is foundational for brain health and supports sustainable recovery.

Meals are also a time to sit down and connect with peers. Building relationships and a community in a relaxed and supportive environment can help remind you you’re not alone on this journey.

Special dietary needs, including vegan, vegetarian, allergies, or medical concerns, are always accommodated.

Downtime and Self-Management Skills

Between sessions and scheduled activities, you’ll have intentional downtime built into your day. This time supports your recovery by helping you develop healthy ways to manage unstructured moments and build self-awareness. It also gives you the space to relax and connect with other patients and staff in a more casual setting.

  • Complete treatment assignments

  • Practice coping skills to manage boredom and unstructured time

  • Watch TV or listen to music during designated times

  • Enjoy time outdoors for walking, meditating, or simply taking in the scenery

The Power of Community

Connection and support are at the core of the Caron experience. Within your community of peers and staff, you'll begin to explore what fun, joy, and social connection look like in sobriety.

During community time, you’ll engage in structured activities like:

  • Movie nights
  • Game nights
  • Bowling
  • Scenic hikes
  • Music jam sessions

These shared experiences reinforce that joy is possible, and even more fulfilling, in recovery.

Spiritual Care and Chapel

Spiritual care is an important component of Caron's treatment plan in Pennsylvania and Florida, with groups, lectures, and access to faith-based services such as:

  • Jewish Sabbath
  • Catholic Mass
  • Muslim prayer services

Each Sunday, all are invited to attend Chapel, often referred to as “the heartbeat of Caron.” Chapel features live music (led by patients who choose to participate), guest speakers, and opportunities for reflection and inspiration. The weekly chapel service in Pennsylvania celebrates the transformative power of healing and is open to all patients and their families.

A Supportive Path to Healing

From comprehensive therapy to community connection and spiritual renewal, every part of treatment at Caron is designed with your long-term recovery in mind. Grounded in compassion and guided by clinical excellence, our programs help you build a life of clarity, connection, and purpose — one day at a time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Inpatient rehab, also known as residential treatment, involves staying at a rehab facility 24/7 for a prescribed period of time. Patients live on-site and have access to around-the-clock medical supervision, structured schedules, and intensive support from a care team. This level of care is typically recommended for individuals who need a more immersive and supportive environment due to the severity or complexity of their condition.

Outpatient rehab care allows patients to receive treatment while continuing to live at home. Individuals attend scheduled therapy sessions, medical appointments, or programs at a treatment facility, but return home afterward. Outpatient care is best suited for individuals with mild to moderate symptoms who are stable and motivated to follow a structured treatment plan independently.

This depends on several factors, including the severity of the condition, medical or psychological needs, level of daily functioning, support system at home, and personal safety considerations. A professional assessment is the best way to determine the most appropriate level of care.

All patients begin treatment with a required five-day blackout period, during which phones and personal electronic devices are not accessible. After that period, device access is earned and permitted during designated times, depending on your treatment unit.

If you need to make a call, hallway phones are available. Laptops may be granted during scheduled times if needed for schoolwork or academic responsibilities.

This approach is designed to support full engagement in treatment while gradually reintroducing healthy technology habits.

Bring comfortable clothing, essential toiletries, prescription medications (in original containers), and any necessary medical items. You’ll receive a detailed packing list before admission outlining what is allowed and what should be left at home.

Visitation policies vary by program and location, with safety and patient focus as top priorities. Family involvement is generally encouraged through scheduled family sessions and participation in our Family Education Program. Your care team will discuss the best way for when and how your loved ones can be involved.

Yes, active participation in group therapy, individual sessions, wellness activities, and educational programming is a key part of your treatment plan. Every activity is designed to support your addiction recovery and personal growth.

Yes. While the daily structure is consistent, your treatment process is personalized based on your needs, clinician’s evaluation, and recovery goals.

Length of stay varies by individual, diagnosis, and program. Residential treatment typically ranges from several weeks to several months, focusing on preparing you for lasting recovery, and not rushing the process.
