Tom Deitzler is the Senior Clinical Advisor to EVP of Treatment at Caron. He has been in the field of substance abuse treatment for over 25 years. For many years his expertise had been with the criminal justice populations. Prior to his current position, Tom was for nearly ten years, the Clinical Director of the Teen and Young Adult Programs at Caron Pennsylvania, where he is credited for having an integral role in the development of the industry-leading Young Adult Male Treatment Program. Tom has a great passion for this population of patients and provided excellent leadership, supervision, and support to his staff to provide services to these individuals.
Tom is known for his creativeness in treatment planning and most recently developed a pet therapy program at Caron which has become a vital component within the teen and young adult patient populations.
As the Senior Clinical Advisor to the EVP of Treatment, Tom serves as an interventionist and manages high-profile cases; pre and post treatment. He also maintains a presence in the domain of public speaking as it relates to teen, young adult and adult treatment and recovery.
Tom holds credentials with the offices of the Pennsylvania Certification Board (PCB) that include: Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, Certified Criminal Justice Professional, Certified Co-Occurring Disorder Professional, Certified Intervention Professional, and Certified Clinical Supervisor. From this agency (the PCB), Tom has been awarded a ‘Certificate of Accomplishment’ for his significant efforts to have his staff become credentialed. He was also awarded the 2009 Certified Professional of the Year by the PCB for outstanding contributions to the service in the field of chemical dependency treatment.
In 1998, Tom received a Graduate Certification from the Pennsylvania State University’s Graduate School of Psychology. Throughout his career, Tom has developed a very sound understanding of licensure processes, development of programs, and writing of standards and compliance obligations. Currently, Tom is serving on the Lebanon County Heroin Task Force and the Board of Directors of Lebanon County Drug and Alcohol Commission which are both in his home county in PA. He is also a guest lecturer at Lebanon Valley College’ school of Psychology and Social Work and the Penn State Hershey Medical Center’s School of Psychiatry.
