A rich history of hope and healing.
In 1957, Richard J. Caron, a recovering alcoholic, and his wife, Catherine, opened their home to people who needed guidance and support in recovery. Richard and his wife spent hours chit chatting with anyone who came to them for help.
Two years later, the Carons purchased a historic resort on South Mountain in Wernersville, Pennsylvania and opened Chit Chat Farms – a facility that soon grew and gained an international reputation for excellence as one of the first and foremost chemical dependency treatment centers in the United States - an organization that set the standard for early addiction treatment. Chit Chat Farms, lovingly called Magic Mountain by the thousands of patients and families who have experienced healing there, pioneered the addiction treatment industry in many ways. It was one of the first facilities to admit and treat female alcoholics, and it was one of the first to incorporate psychological treatment components with the traditional 12-Step approach. After helping thousands of patients, Chit Chat was renamed Caron to honor its late founders in 1983.
Through industry highs and lows, Caron has stood fast in its mission to transform lives impacted by addiction and substance use through proven, comprehensive and personalized behavioral healthcare solutions. Dick Caron was a man of vision and hope, faithfully supported by his wife, Catherine. With their vision constantly in our sites, we have brought lasting hope, healing, and recovery to all who need it for nearly 60 years.
