Adolescent Extended Care

After a primary treatment stay, which averages about 30 days, some adolescents may be recommended to continue treatment in our Extended Care Program. A referral to Extended Care involves many variables. Issues that can impact a referral into an Extended Care Program include:

• Motivation for change
• Psychiatric disorders
• Family environment
• Social environment and social skills
• Extent of drug use
• Legal issues
• History of abuse
• Other clinical dynamics

During Extended Care (a 90-day minimum stay) adolescents are gradually reintegrated into their home environment via home passes and extended visitations. Additionally, weekend family therapy is a crucial clinical tool to help parents and their children openly discuss family dynamics and enhance levels of honesty and trust.
