Kenneth W. Thompson

Kenneth W. Thompson, M.D., FASAM

Dr. Thompson has worked in addiction medicine since he went through his own recovery process 22 years ago. Since that time, he has participated in the interventions, assessment, treatment, and/or monitoring of more than 18,000 addiction-related patients.  

At Caron, Dr. Thompson oversees detoxification and addiction medicine. Dr. Thompson is an expert in the treatment of impaired professionals and also has an expertise in dual diagnosis and chronic pain issues.

Dr. Thompson is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and has been certified by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) since 1990. In 2003, Dr. Thompson was selected as a Fellow of ASAM, an honor granted to select ASAM physician members for their significant contributions to the society and to the field of addiction medicine.

Before joining Caron, Dr. Thompson was an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, Florida. He was instrumental in the development and opening of the Florida Recovery Center, the University of Florida College of Medicine's first addiction treatment facility. At the University, he was involved in the education of medical students, residents and Fellows in Addiction Medicine. He received his Medical Degree from Thomas Jefferson in Philadelphia.

Doug Tieman

Doug Tieman
President and CEO 

Mr. Tieman has been the President and CEO of Caron Treatment Centers since 1995.  Under Tieman's direction, Caron has taken leadership roles in treating addiction in young adults and adolescents, sponsoring research, and participating in national conferences on addiction and recovery. Caron has developed and provides gender-separate and gender-specific treatment in both its adolescent and adult programs, from primary through extended care. He also established regional centers in Philadelphia, PA, New York, Boca Raton, FL, and Bermuda.  Since Mr. Tieman joined Caron, its revenue has more than quadrupled. 

Mr. Tieman is a strong advocate for both research and prevention. Caron participates in studies with leading research universities including the University of Pennsylvania, Thomas Jefferson University, Brown University, and Treatment Research Institute and conducts on-campus training for physicians and other health care professionals. Caron's Student Assistance Professionals work on alcohol and drug prevention in 250 school districts along the east coast.

Mr. Tieman has spent more than 20 years in the addiction treatment field in treatment center and industry leadership positions. He began his career with the Hazelden Foundation and was a Chairman of the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers, a member of the American College of Addiction Treatment Administrators and a Board Member of National Council on Alcohol and Drug Addiction. He has also made a practice of visiting treatment centers across the U.S. in an effort to foster a sense of community and the exchange of information and ideas.

Mr. Tieman completed the Minnesota Management Institute at the University of Minnesota and received an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Concordia University. He is the recipient of several awards, including Berks County Chamber of Commerce, "Large Business Person of the Year" in 2004 and Eastern Pennsylvania Business Journal "Spotlight Award" in 2005.

Harris Stratyner, Ph.D.

Harris Stratyner, Ph.D., CASAC
Regional Vice President of Caron New York

Dr. Stratyner is the Regional Vice President for Caron Treatment Centers' New York Recovery Center. He is a renowned addiction and mental health treatment specialist with more than 27 years of experience. In addition to treating patients, he oversees the clinical staff and develops and implements workshops and programs for patients in recovery at Caron New York.

Dr. Stratyner developed the technique "Carefrontation," which combines the latest motivational engagement techniques and an environment of respect and dignity to stress individual responsibility to deal with one's addiction or mental health condition.

Dr. Stratyner currently holds positions as a Clinical Associate Professor at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and as a Vice Chair of the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD) Board of Directors. He is also a contributing author to the PDR Guide to Pediatric & Adolescent Mental Health (Published in 2009 by Thomson Reuters).

Before joining Caron, Dr. Stratyner held leadership and academic positions at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and the Weill Medical College of Cornell University. He was listed by the prestigious Castle Connelly almanac as one of the profession's leading specialists.
