For Families of Adults
Caron believes it is imperative to engage an individual’s family from the onset of treatment. We put a major emphasis on treating the family as part of the treatment and recovery process.
Caron’s Adult Family Programs are a critical and integral part of a patient’s overall treatment because the entire family has been impacted by the disease of addiction. The program provides a place for the entire family to begin the healing process. All of Caron’s adult treatment programs (for men and women) offer a Family Program tailored to meet each family’s needs.
The program is a golden opportunity for families to learn the basics about addiction, and how their behaviors and attitudes may have innocently enabled their loved one’s addiction to progress in its severity. The program addresses topics such as:
- Addiction as a progressive disease
- Codependency
- Intro to Al-Anon
- The relapse process
- Healthy communication
The program operates Saturday-Wednesday. The first two days are strictly for family members; patients then join their families on the third day. During the course of the program, patients and their families will develop communication skills and begin to appreciate the positives they see in each other.
The Family Component within the Relapse Program
Caron’s Relapse Family Program strives to get families to explore how all of its members contribute to the addiction/relapse cycle and participate in the recovery process. Relapse is, unfortunately, a component of the disease of addiction for some. However, when relapse occurs, patients and their families are in a very different place than when they went through treatment the first time. Now, more than ever, families and significant others need to invest their time and energy into the recovery process.
During the program, which operates Saturday-Wednesday, intensive group therapy experiences help to reveal the specific and individualized relapse process for each patient and family. Families participate with their loved ones in a group format led by the family education program staff and addiction counselors. The goal of the program is to assist families in garnering further insight into how the relapse process unfolds.
The intent of the Relapse Family Program is to:
- Engage the family in identifying the relapse cycle
- Determine how each family member inadvertently contributes to the relapse cycle
- Allow families to learn how to “detach with love”
- Identify steps to minimize relapse in the future
- Restore hope
The Family Component in Adult Men's & Women's Extended Care
During the 90-day stay within Caron's Adult Extended Care Programs families will continue in the journey of early recovery. Family work will be conducted throughout the treatment process with an addiction counselor and their loved one in an effort to assist in enhancing communication, increase coping skills, and learn to live a sober life.
All families will be expected to participate in a one-time multi-family program. This program will be discussed and scheduled with your loved one's addiction counselor during their stay at Caron.
