The Satell Family Children and Teens Program
The Satell Family Children and Teens Program serves as a way to educate children and teens about the consequences of drugs/alcohol abuse and addiction by using an approach most suitable for their age group. The program provides children and teens with the coping tools they need to live with an addicted parent or sibling, thus improving their self-esteem, empowering them to make healthy choices and opening new lines of communication with family members.
The goal of the program is to provide an educational, fun experience that will help children and teens learn and build the skills they need to:
- Understand the disease process of addiction
- Understand that they are not responsible for their loved one’s addiction
- Appropriately process their feelings regarding the impact addiction has had on themselves and their family
- Understand the treatment and recovery process
- Identify a support system and how to utilize them
- Develop healthy coping and problem-solving skills
The Satell Family Children and Teens Program is one day in length and occurs the second Saturday of each month on Caron’s PA campus in Wernersville. The program is designed for children 7-15 years old who have a parent or sibling currently in one of Caron’s inpatient or outpatient treatment programs. (Children 16 years and up are eligible to participate in one of Caron’s Family Education Programs.)
