What is Codependency?

Codependency is a learned behavior that can be passed down from one generation to another.  It is an emotional and behavioral condition that affects an individual's ability to have healthy, mutually satisfying relationships.

Codependency often affects a spouse, a parent, a sibling, or a friend of a person who has or is in recovery from a chemical dependency.  Chemical dependency, in addition to other forms of addictive and dysfunctional behaviors, leaves its mark on individuals of all ages, whether they are currently living with addictive/dysfunctional behaviors or grew up in an environment where these behaviors were present.

Caron's Center for Self Development

Caron's Center for Self Development provides a codependency program that is a vital step for anyone who has lived with addiction, dysfunction, neglect or abuse.  Those who have lived with addiction, psychological or emotional dysfunction often carry wounds which undermine positive feelings and negatively influence how one relates to others.
